Friends of Littlegarth School

Dear Parents

Friends of Littlegarth School (“FLS”) is a parent body dedicated to fundraising for the School and organising fun events for pupils, parents and families.

Every family and member of staff at Littlegarth School is automatically part of the FLS and everyone is very welcome to get involved with the work we do.

What We Do

The FLS team plans and runs annual family fundraising events including Bonfire & Fireworks Night, the Christmas Bazaar and the Summer Fete, as well as ad hoc evenings for parents such as quiz nights, curry nights and parent parties. We also help to organise and run events for the pupils, including the annual Easter Activity Day and Christmas Parties.

Who We Are

The FLS is run by a committee headed up by the FLS Chair, Deputies, Treasurers and Secretaries.

Chair – Louisa Watchorn

Treasurer – Sam Cooper-Brankin

Deputy – Sarah Hester

Secretary – TBC

In addition, we have a fantastic team of parent volunteers who attend FLS meetings, bringing new ideas and support. These parents take care of specific elements of events such as: recruiting external stalls for the bazaar and fete; advertising events and ticket printing; providing refreshments for parents and visiting teams at School sports events; decorating the hall for social events; running the semi-annual raffles and giving their time and energy to set up; run stalls and tidy up after our larger events. The FLS could not run without these committed, energetic individuals and we are extremely grateful for all their support and enthusiasm.

Each class has their own FLS representative, who will introduce themselves to you at the start of the year and will provide information on upcoming events. If you have any queries or suggestions for the FLS or would just like to see what’s going on, please either speak to your class rep or better still come along to one of our meetings (dates above). They are informal and brief and a great way to get involved with the fundraising and social side of the School. You can also email us at flschair@littlegarth.org

Funds Raised

Funds raised by the FLS are reinvested in School and used to purchase equipment or fund projects for the benefit of the pupils. In addition, some monies are donated to either local charities or causes that have impacted on the lives of Littlegarth School pupils and their families.

In the past, funds have been used to purchase interactive whiteboards for classrooms, cricket nets for the sports field and equipment and furniture for the new classroom building. In June 2019, the FLS presented a cheque to the School for £10,000 which was used to help equip “Lizzie’s Kitchen” through the purchase of 2 fan assisted ovens, 2 upright freezers, 2 induction hobs and various smaller utensils.

The Giving Tree provides a real opportunity for families to leave a lasting legacy to mark their time at Littlegarth. We are offering families and local advocates of the school the opportunity to have your name inscribed on one of the 250 individual leaves of the Tree, in return for a £175 donation towards the Pavilion. The installation will serve as a physical reminder of the huge support given by our Littlegarth family in the construction of the Pavilion, and we have no doubt that the Pavilion will be very well used once it is open.

The Tree will initially be placed on the grass outside the new building near the car park, and the copper construction of the Tree means it will over time become beautifully weathered, to compliment the natural look of the new pavilion. If demand is sufficiently high, a second tree will be purchased to allow even more messages of support to be displayed across the school site.

We hope that children, parents, grandparents, local businesses, suppliers, staff, and former parents alike will wish to see their and their peers’ names inscribed on the hundreds of leaves the Tree can display, to show just how expansive our community is here at Littlegarth.

Huge thanks to all the families who have already purchased a leaf – we greatly appreciate your support.

If you wish to feature on the Giving Tree, you can purchase a leaf here via this link: https://buytickets.at/littlegarth/715918 Please of course feel free to share this information with those who may also wish to support our fundraising efforts to support the school.
