Children in Year 5 and 6 are placed into sets for Maths and for English. Every child is taught by the Head of Department for these two subjects and exposed to curriculums that take 11+ requirements and senior school entry and scholarship preparation in their stride and stretch the children into senior school concepts. Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning are taught weekly as a discreet subject to Years 4-6.
In recent years children have achieved incredibly high results in the Primary Maths Challenge, being placed in the top 350 in the world.
The Maths curriculum enables children to become highly fluent with number, adept at problem solving and confident to have a go when faced with complex questions. The English Curriculum is deep and wide ranging allowing children to be immersed in language, encourage a love of reading, be confident spellers and be able to communicate in written and verbal conventions at a high level as well as expressing their own creativity.
In recent years children have achieved 2nd places in Public Speaking competitions, Honorary Mentions in international essay writing competitions and had stories accepted for publication and as winning entries in regional competitions.
A high number of children each year achieve scholarships, including Academic scholarships, or achieve grammar school places.
