Visitor Wi-Fi – Terms and Conditions of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Littlegarth School Visitor Wi-Fi network (“the Service”), you agree to comply with these Terms and Conditions of Use, the Guest Wi-Fi Acceptable and Fair Use Policy, and the Guest Wi-Fi Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree to these terms, you must not use the Service.

2. Service Availability

The Visitor Wi-Fi network is provided free of charge to guests of Littlegarth School.

  • Access is provided on a temporary, non-exclusive basis.
  • The Service is not guaranteed to be uninterrupted or error-free.
  • Littlegarth School reserves the right to suspend, restrict or withdraw access at any time without notice.

3. Appropriate Use

You agree to use the Service lawfully and responsibly. You must not:

  • Use the network for any unlawful purpose.
  • Access, download, create or distribute offensive, indecent, extremist, or illegal content.
  • Attempt to bypass or interfere with network security or filtering systems.
  • Attempt to access school systems, internal networks, or other users’ devices.
  • Conduct activities that may disrupt the network or impact other users.

All traffic is subject to web filtering and monitoring in line with safeguarding and compliance requirements.

4. Safeguarding and Filtering

The Service is filtered and monitored using Smoothwall web filtering technology in line with the school’s safeguarding responsibilities.

Littlegarth School reserves the right to block or restrict access to websites or services that are deemed inappropriate, unsafe, or contrary to the school’s values.

5. Security

Users are responsible for:

  • Ensuring their devices are secure and up to date.
  • Maintaining appropriate antivirus protection.
  • Protecting their own data.

Littlegarth School accepts no responsibility for loss of data, device damage, or security breaches resulting from use of the Service.

6. Liability

The Service is provided “as is” without warranty.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Littlegarth School shall not be liable for:

  • Loss of data
  • Loss of business
  • Financial loss
  • Damage to equipment
  • Indirect or consequential losses

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

7. Termination

Access may be withdrawn immediately if these terms are breached.


Guest Wi-Fi Acceptable and Fair Use Policy

1. Purpose

This policy ensures that the Visitor Wi-Fi network remains safe, secure, and available for legitimate use by guests across the Littlegarth estate.

2. Acceptable Use

You may use the network for:

  • Email and general browsing
  • Accessing work-related resources
  • Video conferencing (reasonable use)
  • Streaming (moderate use)

3. Prohibited Use

The following activities are strictly prohibited:

  • Accessing illegal or inappropriate content
  • Downloading or sharing pirated material
  • Using peer-to-peer file sharing services
  • Conducting commercial activity without permission
  • Attempting network scanning, hacking, or penetration testing
  • Circumventing content filtering or monitoring systems
  • Using VPNs, anonymisers or proxy services to bypass filtering

Any attempt to bypass Smoothwall filtering will result in immediate disconnection.

4. Fair Use

The network is shared.

To ensure availability for all users:

  • Excessive bandwidth consumption may be limited.
  • Large downloads or streaming for extended periods may be restricted.
  • Automated backups, system updates or large file transfers may be blocked.

Littlegarth School reserves the right to prioritise traffic where necessary.

5. Monitoring

Traffic may be logged and monitored for safeguarding, security, and compliance purposes.

Where misuse is suspected, the school may:

  • Terminate access
  • Retain logs
  • Report unlawful activity to the appropriate authorities

Guest Wi-Fi Privacy Policy

Littlegarth School is committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. What Data We Collect

When you use the Visitor Wi-Fi network, we may collect:

  • Device MAC address
  • Assigned IP address
  • Date and time of connection
  • Duration of session
  • Websites accessed (via filtering logs)
  • Network usage statistics

We do not access the content of encrypted communications.

2. Why We Collect This Data

We collect this information to:

  • Ensure network security
  • Meet safeguarding obligations
  • Prevent misuse
  • Investigate technical issues
  • Comply with legal obligations

3. Legal Basis

Processing is necessary for:

  • Legitimate interests (network security and safeguarding)
  • Compliance with legal obligations

4. Data Retention

Connection logs are retained for a limited period in line with the school’s data retention policy.

5. Data Sharing

We may share data:

  • With Smoothwall (as filtering provider)
  • With IT service providers under contract
  • With law enforcement where legally required

We do not sell personal data.

6. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
