The sound of the french language echoed around Littlegarth as Year 3 children immersed themselves in a fantastic French Day packed with language, culture, creativity and, of course, delicious food.
Throughout the day, children enjoyed a variety of activities designed to bring French culture to life with teachers providing an immersive experience.
One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for children to put their design and engineering skills to the test by constructing their own Eiffel Towers using spaghetti and marshmallows. There were some incredibly imaginative creations, with pupils working collaboratively to recreate one of France’s most iconic landmarks. The challenge sparked plenty of problem-solving, teamwork and laughter along the way.
No French celebration would be complete without food, and the children thoroughly enjoyed making and tasting pancakes and crêpes. The aroma of freshly cooked pancakes filled the school as pupils learned French vocabulary linked to ingredients and cooking while developing their culinary skills. Unsurprisingly, sampling the finished products proved to be a very popular part of the day!
The arts also played a starring role with children exploring French theatre with a visiting company who brought the language to life in the afternoon too, helping children gain a deeper appreciation of French life while building their confidence in speaking and understanding the language.
French Day perfectly demonstrated how learning a language extends far beyond the classroom textbook. By combining practical activities, creativity, food, performance and cultural exploration, pupils were able to experience French culture in an engaging and memorable way.
