As part of UK Parliament Week, our Year 6 pupils had a fantastic opportunity to deepen their understanding of democracy and the way our country is governed. They were delighted to meet a member of the House of Lords, who shared fascinating insights into the traditions, history and important role of the upper chamber. The children asked a wide range of thoughtful questions about how laws are made, what debates are like, and what it means to be a Lord in modern Britain.
This memorable session followed a recent visit from our local MP, Bernard Jenkin, who spoke to the year group about his work in the House of Commons and the issues he helps to address on behalf of our community.
Together, these experiences have helped our pupils gain a clearer picture of how Parliament works and the different roles within it—an inspiring introduction to active citizenship.
