Children at Littlegarth love the freedom of individual expression and the opportunities given in drama, dance and music.
Each year there are class assemblies, Christmas Nativities and a Carol Service, a House Talent Show, Spring and Summer Concerts, Speech Day performances, a Year 3 Drama Workshop, a Year 4 Production, a Year 6 Production, opportunities to perform in weekly assemblies and an auditioned show for Years 4-6 at a professional level (shows have included Bugsy Malone and Matilda).
At Littlegarth, all children actively participate in a wide range of musical activities throughout the school. There are many weekly music clubs, including choirs, African drumming, orchestra, wind band, string group, and guitar ensemble. All the clubs have opportunities to perform for audiences throughout the year. There are also after school drama clubs, including Musical Theatre.
The music room is a huge space where all children from Nursery upwards go for their lessons with a specialist music teacher. The room is equipped with keyboards and a range of instruments allowing children to develop a wide range of skills.
In addition, a wide variety of individual instrument lessons are available including piano, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, guitar, drums, and voice.
Likewise, Speech and Drama lessons are available, with many children preparing for Trinity exams (similar to LAMDA). Littlegarth pupils have represented the school in the annual Colchester and Sudbury Speech and Drama Festivals with notable success in poetry and prose reading and solo acting. In ballet, pupils are prepared for Royal Academy of Dance exams, and are highly successful. (Please see the fees page for more information on individual/group lessons).
