Today, the Littlegarth community came together for a reflective and meaningful Remembrance Day assembly, honouring the courage and sacrifice of those who have served, and continue to serve, in times of conflict.
We were honoured to welcome Lee McDade, from SASRA and Colchester Baptist Church, who led our assembly with inspiring and heartfelt words focussing on the decisions that we make during our lives. His message encouraged us to reflect on the importance of peace, gratitude, and remembrance in our own lives and are extremely grateful to Lee for sharing his wisdom, warmth, and time with us on this significant day.
Members of Year 5 and Year 6 read a poignant story that captured the spirit of remembrance, while our Head Prefects led the school in a thoughtful prayer. The orchestra, complete with oboe, french horn, trumpets, strings, woodwind and percussion performed, and the whole community sang together. A beautiful display of poppies cascading downwards added to the occasion.
One of the most striking moments came with the playing of The Last Post and Reveille, performed on the trumpet by our Head of Performing Arts. The music, combined with our period of reflective silence, allowed everyone – children, staff, and parents – to pause and remember with sincerity and pride.
We are incredibly proud of the maturity and respect shown by all our pupils today. Their understanding of the importance of remembrance grows each year, and this morning’s assembly reflected their empathy and appreciation.
Our thanks once again go to Lee McDade for leading such a meaningful service, and to everyone who contributed who made this Remembrance Day so special.
We will remember them.
